Asobi Seksu

Asobi Seksu (formed in 2004) is a New York City, United States based dream pop/shoegaze band. Singer Yuki Chikudate often incorporates Japanese lyrics into her songs. The band’s name in Japanese consists of two words, “asobi” meaning “play” or “for fun”, and “sekkusu” the Japanese imported word for”sex” . Their sound has been said to draw influence from the shoegazing movement of the late 1980s to early 1990s, which was coined to describe the textured and effects-heavy sound of alternative rock in that era. The band consists of Yuki Chikudate (singing|vocals), James Hanna (guitar, vocals), Haji (bass guitar|bass) and Ben Shapiro (drum kit|drums).

Asobi Seksu released their eponymous debut album in 2004. The band regrouped with a new rhythm section for their second album, Citrus, which was recorded in Gigantic Studios, New York City with producer Chris Zane.

One Little Indian Records re-released the band’s first album Asobi Seksu and the follow-up Citrus in 2006.

Highly recommended.

    Hi, Burek!
Have you ever listened the new Japanese rock band, "plenty"? They've got much potential and produce good materials. Here is the link of their official youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/plentyofficial?feature=watch

I have longed to have/download their albums off the internet, but my lack of japanese knowledge prevents me.
If you happen to have listened to the band or liked it, can you please share the links if you ever found one?
    Thanks a lot.
    Your blog rocks!

  3. Well the link certainly intrigued me. I haven't heard of them before but I like the sound. I'll try to snoop around for some links. Bands that name themselves after commonly used words are a bitch to find so I can't promise you anything. :(
