Poll overview, some other thoughts, facts/stats and crap like that.

Alrigthy then. This should be some kind of an overview of the year. First I guess I should start with the poll since it's tied with the facts part of this post. The results were:

What do you download the most from here?
Music 9 (37%)
Manga 9 (37%)
Guro 2 (8%)
Everything 5 (20%)

First of all I think it's kinda ironic that guro got the least votes because according to my trusty mediafire guro mangas are downloaded the most from here (or some sneaky people are stealing my links, not that I mind that :D). Usually when I post albums it takes a week or so before it gets over 20-30 downloads. I'm not really surprised with this because since I post music that is not connected with each other so it's kinda hard to get a constant following. For example a few days I would post Insect Warfare releases, days after I would post a Totoro Soundtrack and afterwards something completely different and so on. So I guess people can't really follow my understanding of music thus the low following or so I think. Despite that I think I'll continue doing things my way no matter of how I'm untrue to a certain genre (Deathspell Omega fans a ho ho poke at you). TNA flourished a lot faster than FT, it had a steady visit of 500-600 visitors daily just after a few months and download count would go around 100 or so but honestly I enjoy much better posting here then at TNA. Over there things are starting to get rather, hectic. :D I get tons of mails and lots of promotions so I actually haft to do stuff and since I'm also very busy with college it's tricky to do both things at the same time. The result is a long gap between my posts and I feel kinda bad for people who are sending me their albums for posting because some of them had to wait for like a month or so. I even thought I should quit TNA for a while but I'm not going to since I still love that blog and I met a lot of great people there so it's still very fun over there despite the problems. If other authors (excluding Khaos) could be a little bit more active I would really appreciate that. Anyway, let's look at some statistics shall we? :D

The list of 5 most downloaded:

Music:

1. Original Soundtrack - Tonari No Totoro (162 downloads)
2. Sun Ra - Sound Sun Pleasure!! (131 downloads)
3. Ólafur Arnalds - Variations Of Static (126 downloads)
4. Angel'in Heavy Syrup - IV (125 downloads)
5. Original Soundtrack - Akira (125 downloads)

I was very surprised with this. Totoro ftw! :D

Manga:

1. Junji Ito - Museum of Terror (84 downloads)
2. Fuan no Tane Volume 1 (74 downloads)
3. Boichi - Hotel (72 downloads)
4. A Funeral Procession of K Volume 1 (68 downloads)
5. Nijigahara Holograph (63 downloads)

Happy to see I have horror fans here.

Guro:

1. Uziga Waita - Mr. Sarubato's Rowdy Classroom (351 downloads)
2. Uziga Waita - Modern Stories of the Bizarre (210 downloads)
3. Jun Hayami - 16 Year Old Piece of Meat (167 downloads)
4. Jun Hayami - This Is Art (146 downloads)
5. Suehiro Maruo - Ultra Gash Inferno (136 downloads)

It's rather obvious that my links are also posted somewhere else. I'm guessing Gurochan maybe? :D

Some other stats:

Total Storage Used:12.17 GB (From 236 total files)
Total Downloads Served: 10,698 (Since May 31, 2008)
Est. Bandwidth Served: 473.98 GB

I don't know about you but I'm very happy with how things are, the numbers are very satisfying and I think I did a good deed by spreading around some really (to me) amazing things.

Nevertheless there are still things which I didn't post and I really would like to start in near future. I would like to start posting video games. There are some really awesome older video games that you people might have not played or forgot and perhaps the younger generations can check out how games used to look like. So you can expect very soon some old DOS platformers, shooters, rts and Lucas Arts adventures; things that scarred my fragile childhood forever (Raptor omfg). I also hope to start posting some more artbooks and movies. Movies for that matter are the least downloaded things around but that's understandable so I won't complain, torrents are made for that anyway. :D

And the last thing I would like to mention is that I pretty much ripped all of my vinyls I have (I don't have a lot but there are some rarities among them, I think :D) so there's going to be a vinyl week or something soon enough when I sort and label everything out.

Well that's about it, I don't know what else to add, happy new year or something like that.

Advantage Lucy - Echo Park

Advantage Lucy plays songs influenced by 60s janglepop, Swedish pop, and pretty much anything else that makes people feel good. Presently comprising vocalist Aiko and guitarist Yoshiharu Ishizaka, the group was formed in 1995 as a four piece, named Lucy Van Pelt after the Peanuts character of the same name. A fixture on the indies scene, Lucy Van Pelt released several records on the God’s Pop Records imprint, growing their fan base countrywide through frequent club gigs, in-store appearances, and other special events. Great music to listen on sunday afternoon.

Wikipedia.

Ever since I started watching movies I always enjoyed those old Noir films. Those old washed up detectives who have seen it all and those lovely fragile femme fatale. Don't know really why but I always liked that. I guess that explains why Max Payne is one of my favorite games hmm.

Anway, not to bother you with myself. Alphaville is among the first attempts to make a future dystopian world. Back then this movie might have been a horrible vision of future but today I watch this with a gentle smile. First of all this future the director portrays pretty much looks like today (today, as in the 60s) except there are now just two contires. The Outland where the free people live and this central state (apparently Europe) where everything is ran by a supercomputer and everyone acts like they landed from a planet called Vulcan. The Outland is bothered with what's going on in there so they decide to send a lone warrior to save the day and kill or return the maker of this Alphavilles (where night is eternal and usuall depressive expressionist bollocks :D) computer.

That's about as far as I'll go with the story. The thing about this movie is that it's too old. Don't get me wrong I adore old movies but this just goes too far. The music here is a big problem. I listen to noise and all unbelievable crap but god damn the music here is annoying. For example a dramatic orchestral music plays for no apparent reason while the protagonist enters a hotel, then the servant asks him to take his bags and he refuses (the dramatic music still plays) then he goes into the elevator (the music still goes on), he comes to a floor and walks and enters his room and sits on his bed (the dramatic music ends around there). What the? What's really the point of it anyway? He refused to give his bag? Was that so dramatic in the 60s? That and numerous little things gather into one big annoyance. Yet, the movie is still fun to watch, if you can get past by those little things and the "computers" voice that sounds like someone is dying from a throat cancer. If you like noir, outdated futuristic movies, black & white colour and dystpian worlds then watch it. If not then I suggest you skip this one. :D

Shibusashirazu Orchestra - Shiburyu

Shibusashirazu Orchestra (渋さ知らズ), which is at the forefront of contemporary jazz, was formed by bassist Daisuke Fuwa in 1989 as a free jazz orchestra.

The orchestra is, so to speak, a multimedia jazz performance group consisting of over twenty musicians, including many well known Japanese performers such as Hiroaki Katayama and Takeshi Shibuya, as well as Butoh dancers, modern dancers, theater actors, and artists.
All of the works played by Shibusashirazu Orchestra are Japanese jazz works composed or arranged by Daisuke Fuwa. The orchestra gives exciting stage performances, with its dynamic sound and lively dancing and acting. Large moving objects made by stage artists make the audiences even more enthusiastic. (A twenty-meter-long dragon danced in the air over the audience in their 1998 European tour.)

It can be said that Shibusashirazu Orchestra is not only a jazz orchestra but also a group that brings together various aspects of contemporary Japanese culture. Some of its performances show the course of Japanese music from the Middle Ages to the present, as the group includes musicians playing traditional Japanese instruments such as shamisen, shakuhachi, and ryuteki (a bamboo flute).

Really great hectic jazz definitely check this one out.

Graupel & Endstille - Lauschangriff...

I'm sure pretty much everyone heard of Endstille and they are among my favorite bands evarrr. I thought about posting their discography which is what I usually try to do with my favorite bands but since Endstille is rather popular you can find their albums pretty much everywhere. What I didn't see among the blogs is this tiny little split they did in 2006. The reason for this is mostly because this collector crap (har har) is limited to 500 copies and released only on vinyl. Graupel on the other hand is a lot less known band and they released one full length and a few splits. They play mid paced raw black metal or something. Anyhow, enjoy.

Naoki Yamamoto - Watching TV All The Time Makes You Stupid

I'm surprised I haven't made a lot more Naokis posts since this is one of my favorite manga artists. The story is about an hikikomori who is visited by someone who works in social service (or something like that) and this person decides to help her out. It's a short story so don't expect any deep character development but this little one shot definitely is very much worth to read.

Inkspots - Bless You

The now all popular band (mostly because of Fallout 3), Ink Spots! Conveniently called haha! xD But in fact if I remember right their song Maybe also played at the beginning in Fallout 1. Ironically I found about them through Vangelis because someone claimed that Ink Spots sang the song "One More Kiss" from the Blade Runner Soundtrack. This is of course not true, Vangelis himself sang in that song but he was largly influenced by Ink Spots and their "If I Didn't Care" song. So anyway I thought should check them out since I liked the One More Kiss song quite a bit. And when I started listening to this I thought "Hey this sounds a lot like that music from Fallo.... hey this is that music from fallout!". :D

Anyway, this is all great, great old swing stuff. One of those harmony bands where the main instrument is just a guitar and voices. The Platters are the most popular example of this music. The Ink Spots are similar to them but not quite like it. I'm not sure if this an actual compilation or whatever but it has many songs so definitely get this if you like this kind of music. The only bad thing in this is that every song starts with the same guitar intro. I don't know why they did that but after a while it gets annoying. Despite this fault this is an awesome example of how music used to sound like. They don't make music like they used to. Ah sad thing indeed.

Morbid Angel - Evil Demos

I don't really need to introduce this band do I? Well I guess not and I assume their albums for download are all over the place along with the demos and everything else. Still I need to make this post. xD

Evil Demos (I think) is a bootleg compilation of their works recorded on rehearsal tapes and demos. Nothing more and nothing less. This is fan material so if you don't listen to Morbid Angel a lot don't download this, unless you like really crappy quality and old school death metal.

Usumaru Furuya - Suicide Circle (Jisatsu Sakuru)

Remember that weird Japanese movie (as if there are normal ones) where people would constantly do suicides and listen to a band called Desert or something? Well it was called Suicide Circle and this manga is a spin off to that movie. Though both based on the same thing movie and the manga go in a completely different way from the beginning so you should not feel left behind if you didn't watch the movie. I think it's safe to say that this manga is Furuyas version of the movie. The movie starts by a mass suicide of school girls (hot hot hot xD) by jumping in front of the train. In the movie they all die and someone leaves a mysterious bag but in the manga one of those girls survive and then we start to follow her life after the suicide attempt. The art is fine, nothing special or artistically breathtaking; it does the job well.

Summoning

Summoning is a band where a bunch of dorks play black metal and sing about Lord of the Rings and it's awesome. They come from a little country somewhere in Europe called Austria and they are one of the main representatives of Austria in metal world. Everyone knows about Summoning, I don't even know why I'm posting this but I guess I should because this was one of my first black metal bands and I still like them very much. So for that reason I give you their albums and one EP.

Oh and if you are new with this band then start with "Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame".

Junji Ito - Tomie

Remember that Museum Of Terror post? Well that's the third part of these series. The first two parts are Tomie stories. Now what exactly is this Tomie? Tomie is a girl (I assume you already knew that har har) and from the outside she looks like every other girl. The thing with her is that she has this supernatural ability to attract boys. Attraction in terms that they go insane about her and it they become obsessed with her (kinda like Britney Spears fans but not quite like it). She on the other hand uses this ability to do evil stuff and makes everybody kill and butcher each other and any other girl that tries to compete with Tomie. After a while they get so insane and frantic about her that they kill and chop up Tomie. But the thing is...she can't die. Every part you sever another Tomie grows out of that part. She multiplies and never dies and she keeps coming back.

That's about how most Tomie stories are. There is no continuous plot but just stories about the Tomie phenomena. Tomie along with Gyo and Uzumaki are Junji Itos most famous works. Tomie is the most popular I think since it had several movie adaptations (they all suck or so I heard) and the manga was released in America as well. In terms of drawing it's very simplistic, no great details or amazing 2 page artworks. Despite that it's still an very fun and gross horror story we all love to read. Definitely check this out.

Vangelis - Blade Runner

I'm listening to this a lot these days. I didn't really enjoy this movie the first time I watched it; but that's mostly because I watched it with my dad and he usually ruins the mood of watching movies. The second time I watched I really enjoyed it. The setting and the music, it's all great noir/sci fi stuff with an heavy dose of melancholy and a bit of religion. Great movie and equally great soundtrack. Definitely get this one.

Shintaro Kago - Saftey Hit In Front Of The Station

Been rereading my Shintaro Collection so I thought I should share this one. Some kind of fusion of baseball with real life. I have no idea how baseball is played so I didn't get some parts but the main thing is that there's this guy and he "kicks out" people with his bat during their suicide to ease their pain; or something like that. :D

Shintaro Kago - Drunkard Condo Syndrome

This was the very first manga I read from Shintaro. Ah it seems like it was only yesterday. I was sitting in my little cramped room reading all sorts of stuff (by stuff I mean sick shit no one else reads) and spending my summer nights and mornings in joy and delight. So I came across this website with just a few mangas and saw this one. The cover intrigued me so I thought I should download it. I hoped I for some kind of bondage extremist things etc. but actually the feeling when I finished reading was something along the lines of "what the hell?" and the manga didn't have anything with bondage either. Most Shintaros works are very "WTF" indeed and this one is not an exception either. The story (if you can call it like that) is about an huge condo and every husband returns home drunk but the problem is everyone missed their floor so everyone gets in the wrong apartment. Fun stuff indeed.

Uziga Waita - Game Over

It's Uziga so you pretty much know what to expect. If you haven't read anything from him then here's what you need to know: all of his works are full with sadism, brutality and rape and this one is no exception. The classical stereotype for Guro; stereotype I very much like to read.

This is a short story that was part of a larger book that I uploaded in another post.

Gloria Diaboli - Gate To Sheol

Gloria Diaboli is an fairly new band. This is their second and also newest release and judging by this release their future is quite promising. After a brief theatrical intro you'll be thrown right into their pit of satanic black metal. :D The bitrate is around 230 yet it seems like the production is a bit messed up. The guitars seem to be tuned down a lot in comparison to drum and vocal volume so it can get annoying if you want to actually hear the guitars but other then that this little EP is an very enjoyable trip of this young band.

Kazuki Tomokawa - Nakahara Chuya Sakuhinnshu

Photobucket

友川かずき (Kazuki Tomokawa) is a prolific Japanese acid-folk singer, poet, author, artist and racing tipster, active in the Japanese music scene since the early seventies. He is often described as a “screaming philosopher” due to his idiosyncratic singing style. Whether screaming his lungs out while thrashing his guitar within an inch of its life (his legendarily wild performances frequently end up with all strings snapped during a single song), creating gorgeously romantic and limpid tone-scapes, Tomokawa never remains any less than himself. He walks a path of untutored intelligence, piercing sensitivity, and fully exorcised passions all too rare in the shallow husk of today’s debased world. Very nice music if you are into this kind of stuff.

As of recently, his music has been used in the films of cult directors Takashi Miike and Koji Wakamatsu, and he also appears in person in Miike’s Izo (2004).

Gheorghe Zamfir - The Lonely Shepherd

Gheorghe Zamfir is a Romanian artist: composer, interpreter, poet. He was born in Gaiesti, on the 6th of april 1941. Attracted to music he entered the Gaiesti Music School, hoping to study the accordion. Instead, he was assigned to a pan flute class where promptly demonstrated an extraordinary ability with the instrument. In 1955 enters the Music School in Bucharest (today- the Musical High School “Dinu Lipatti) in the class of Fanica Luca. In 1959 Zamfir receives the First Prize in a national contest. The same year, he recorded the first songs, personal compositions in a popular style with the Folkloric Orchestra of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation. Another important prize is the one from Levadia, Greece. After the high school graduation, (1961) enters the “Ciprian Porumbescu” Conservatory from Bucharest and graduates in 1966 (Pedagogy section), and in 1968 the section of choir conducting with prof. Hiroki Endo - The Crows the Girl and the Yakuza

Aoki is a member of the Japanese Mafia, the Yakuza. He is hiding from the police, from the Yakuza and from himself as well. Sheltered in a house where a Girl lives among the Crows, he seeks redemption and peace. But his past will hunt him down in his present, just to shatter everything apart. Aoki must now face himself, the Yakuza and the Police before his time is done. An really great story I highly recommend this for fans of more philosophical mangas.

A retrospective edit: This short story is a part of a book with a lot of other short stories that I posted, so there's no reason to reupload this individually.

Shintaro Kago - Fetus Collection

Another mockery towards trends and fashions. In this world when a female commits abortion the fetus of the child appears on their head hovering all the time. The protagonist becomes devastated by this fact but she meets a person that will help her realize that you can use this as a fashion item and invites her to her club. The ending is most random. :D

Shintaro Kago - Lord of the Ring

Shintaros parody on the Lord Of The Rings thing. In his case "Lord of the Ring" refers to sumo wrestlers and their fight for the one pants (or something) that beats the crap out of everyone. The manga leans a bit to the yaoi genre but that's mostly because there are no female sumos. >_>

Mondialito - Mondialito

Mondialito is a Japanese indie band consisting of members Fueoka Toshiya (composer/arranger) and Junko (vocalist). They formed in 2002, and the group releases music under their own label, l’azur record. Mondialito’s songs are sung primarily in French and they did a cover of Morita Dojis song in French. What more could you possibly want? :D

New Boris album!

So! Boris is putting out an new album this month! It should be out on 23rd this month which is in 20 days. It's going to be another collaboration with Michio Kurihara so I assume it's going to be awesome as the previous one. Apparently there's going to be one song in two parts called Cloud Chamber 1 and 2. Since the last Michio collaboration in terms of sound was very easygoing there's two options as I see them. First option is that this album is going to sound a lot like Flood and second one is that it will sound as a complete contrast of Rainbow album (by that I mean that it will sound something like Pink or Akuma No Uta). I didn't find any large photos of the covers yet but I did read in an interview where Atsuo (I think) said that when they do covers for albums they write Boris in large letters when the album is wild and energetic and small letters when it's calm and moody. So when I find an larger cover I'll know what to expect. Anyway, really happy about this because I didn't like much either of the versions of Smile. Of course I can already except this album not to be released here along with every other Boris albums so far. So piracy will haft to suffice har har.

Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Anyway, found this news here!

Oh and when I read the title for a second there I thought it said Gas Chamber not Cloud Chamber and I gasplol'd.

Here's the cover:
By the looks of it I think the album is going to be very calm which is great for my taste yay! ^_^

Showoff material and some news.

Got this in the mail yesterday and I thought I should brag a little. :D

Cd on the left is Coffins/The Arm and Sword of a Bastard God split. I'll try to rip it when I can but it takes a lot of time to do it properly so I don't know when that will be. Which reminds me I never ripped that Bastard Noise/Merzbow split har har.

Shirt in the middle is The Arm and Sword of a Bastard God-s logo/whatever/blasphemy. I love bands who don't write their names on their shirts it makes it more elite haha! 8)

LP on the right is Doom Snake Cults only full length release called Love, Sorrow, Doom second edition.

Ok some news now!

TNA
I'm currently occupied with TNA and finally posting most of the stuff that was sent to me for promoting (had to turn down some things I'm afraid) along with some of my uploads. After I finish promotions I'll do some Aube and Masonna albums and something else too which I also received as a contribution.

Flying Teapot
Since FT is an secondary blog things go here (even) more slower than on TNA. But! There's some posts prepared and all I need to do is to zip em up and upload it on mediafire. What to expect? Well, some Shintaro Kago mangas will be posted along with Uziga Waita and some less known mangas but not all will be guros. Musically you can expect another Olfaurs album, some oldies and jazzy stuff, few pop albums and one soundtrack but those who (if there are those) visit my last.fm page now and then will know which soundtrack that's going to be.

That's all for now. Cheers!
