Suehiro Maruo - Yume No Q-saku

Hey, that ninja looks familiar from somewhere hmm.

Anyways, more Maruo! Yume No Q-saku was his second manga that he published, back in 1982 and it deals mostly with relationships; in a Maruo way of relationships. And by that I mean having someones ripped eyeball in a vagina being licked. Absurd as he usually is this manga is filled with batshit insane characters and unusual fetishes. Most of the stories here are new (new, as in not found in other of his works that I uploaded here) aside from Sewer Boy and Shit Soup but they debuted on this volume. As I have mentioned before all of the stories are based on some kind of relationship, gay or otherwise. I still find Sewer Boy to be one of his best hilariously best stories that he ever made but others are great/funny/grotesque as well while a few of them (the first story for me) fall flat and turn out completely unimaginative.

Also, there's a "break" at around the middle of the book with some tasty two page art which showcases Maruo's talent.

All in all I enjoyed this a lot but not in the measure of, say, New National Kid or Rose Colored Monster. Still good and still disgusting. Enjoy.

Suehiro Maruo - Gichi Gichi Kun

This is perhaps the most peculiar book that Maruo ever published. It was released in 1996 a little bit after he published his graphs. Gichi Gichi is very different from anything else he really did before and after.

Gichi Gichi Kun is an episodic story about a boy named Gichi Gichi. He's in elementary school and apart from his weird looks and out of place apparel he also has super powers. He calls them "secret techniques" for some reason. Probably alluding to that he's from China. Surprisingly for a Maruo work he actually tries to do good with those superpowers. So what you really get here is some kind of twisted parody of school manga cliches.

There's not much gore or similar usual Maruo material. So it's basically not in the ero-guro genre (apart from maybe last two or three chapters).

I think one day mister Maruo said to himself (after smoking serious amounts of opium): I'm going to make a commercial mainstream school-life manga.

Jun Hayami - Bloody Angel (untranslated)

Oh here we go again.

Jun Hayami is one of the most well known and perhaps the most incognito Japanese authors of guro comics. He has a very direct style in his works which makes him rather unique among the bunch. By direct I mean that his stories are not very plot driven. Most of them are actually just events that occur somewhere to someone. Sometimes there isn't even a single word throughout the whole story which is why I think this is worth looking through despite the fact that it's not translated. You won't really miss much if you don't know Japanese. Some stories appear in other volumes that I posted before. So you practically have it 1/2 translated.

This particular release has it all. All kinds of fetishes you can think of you'll find them here; violent fetishes that is. The offenders don't get punished, the girls never end well and a lot of them are not adults.

I discussed his style several times before so I won't repeat myself. You'll either like this or won't.

Hideshi Hino - Lullabies From Hell

If you watched (and enjoyed to some extent) the Guinea Pig series then you probably find this name familiar. Well, Hideshi Hino was the director of the Mermaid one and the Flower Of Flesh and Blood from the Guinea Pig Series. Despite his movie endeavors his main work accumulated in the form of horror comics.

Lullabies From Hell is a collection of four of his distinct stories. Although distinct they all share this common dread and some kind of depression. In each story, the main character is either a complete outcast or he is in a situation where everybody is against him. There is no good guys/bad guys, just bad, terrible and deranged guys. This might be a problem for people who usually when they read stories (or watch, whatever) try to connect with the characters and find similarities between themselves and the characters. I don't usually do that so I had no problems with that.

The most peculiar story from these four would be the first one. It's kind of an autobiographic fantasy tale where the main character is the author himself. It goes surreal very fast but you get to meet and understand his fascination with the grotesque. It's a bit corny but it's all good fun, not even the author took the story very seriously.

My personal favorite though would be the third one, called: Train of Terror. Oooh! More cliche names! I liked this one the most because of the constant feel of being completely alone in this rapidly changed world. Nobody seems to be what they show and there's this constant paranoid feeling. Paranoia and dementia; nuff said.

This isn't a modern day manga so the art isn't what you might except. It's more of a Kazuo Umezu style. I'm not sure when was this published but I think it's from the late 70s. There is a lot of gore to be found here but most of it isn't very explicit so gore hounds might be a little disappointed with this one. That doesn't mean there are no disgusting moments or blood crazed panels of comic violence. The aspect of gore is more focused on infection and disgust rather than on dismemberment and so on. Overall art is fairly good, a bit weird I might say. I especially enjoyed how the characters were drawn and especially their eyes. Oh the terror in them is so delightful! :D Everything is so round and circular-ish~.

All in all this is an great old school horror manga and should not be missed by anyone who enjoys this stuff.

Suehiro Maruo - DDT

I don't see any better way to start this new year. I like how the number looks, 2010. It's so; orderly and sequenced.

There are two versions of this book. One came out in 1983 and the other one in 1999. Seems like that this scan is the 1983 version according to the ISBN numbering. But who cares anyway?

This was Suehiros third book and I can't really say this is one of my favorites from him. I don't know, everything just seems kinda out of place here. It starts off with some surreal poetry accompanying with all kinds of imagery but that's pretty much just the warm up. All other stories (if I remember right) are all very much non-surreal so to speak. Most of them are very sexual in nature, full of perverts and prostitution. So yeah, this one could be even called hentai manga. There's one interesting sort of autobiographical story of young Suehrio in school. That one was hilarious for some reason.

By this time Suehrio already established his signature art so it's not that sloppy as is it was in his previous work. While it is his thing it's not that quite psychedelic as it is in his more newer works. You won't see dozens of eyes drawn to indicate movement or those long strolling screams and creepy looks. Despite that the art is quite good and I don't really think anyone else draws like this in the manga world. And as usual his fetish for Germany in its 20s is still very present and his love for old horror movies as well. I can't really recommend this if you are new to Suehrio but if you are already familiar with his work you know what to expect; more or less.

Hiroaki Samura - Love Of The Brute (Russian Unofficial Version)

Why am I posting this again? Is it attention? Well no; it just happens I accidentally one day found a superior version of this art book from what I previously posted. From what I managed to decipher from the Cyrillic text this is an unofficial Russian version of the manga and it seems like it's some sort of internet exclusive version.

So why is this different from the last one?

For starters this is scanned perfectly so you can see the whole image without any shadings or bent papers and the brightness is just the way it should be so it's not too dark nor too bright. The art book itself contains more pages that it did in the last version I posted. While the last one had about 89 pages this one has about 100 pages of art which means it has some new images that were left out on the previous version I found or perhaps were just added for better enjoyment (either way we win :D). The average resolution of the images are 1100x1600.

The art is very brutal and all victims are female so if you are a feminist or something like that, you won't like this. If you like guro you'll adore this and I know a lot of people do because last version I posted had 3k downloads, you sick fucks. :D

Jun Hayami - Hentai Shounen

About the movie, I'll be uploading it during this night so it should be up here tomorrow, along with something else I got in the email today.

But anyway, on to the post. It has been a long time since I posted something from this peculiar man. Lets get things strait, most people will find this very offensive so don't read it unless you are into guro, and I mean some serious guro. :P

Now what exactly is supposed to be offensive? Well I find this word kinda ironic. Especially since there are bands who supposedly support death and destruction but when asked about the holocaust and the nazi regime they do not wish to be connected with them. As if its offensive, it will give them a bad name. But they promote death and destruction. And there aren't a lot of nations who did so effectively. So why not support them? But nazism is offensive so they childishly avoid it because it will hurt their sales and venues won't ask them to play.

What all this has to do with this manga? Well, this manga, and this artist in general, is possibly the most direct and most perverse of all guro artists that I have come across. There's no political correctness here nor the attempt to dodge the "offensive" themes. It's not all drawn so pretty and user friendly like what Uziga does nor it's artistic as Maruos works are. This is just a direct slap to the face of everything that's considered to be moral and good. Hentai Shonen looks like a compilation of all the perverse needs that this author has. It does not matter if its a decapitated leg or table masturbation (it was quite funny to read it though) it tells the story so absurdly that you can't help but to wonder what the hell this man is thinking. Not to mention that the main character is named after the author so he might have actually done some of those things in reality (there's a rumor circulating that this author is in insane asylum, but that's just rumors).

I'm sure all the cool kids will be all over this just to show how sick they are. I don't read it for such purposes. I read it for other purposes. And no, I won't tell you why because I don't really have the need defend myself. You will either like this or hate it. It's up to you to decide.

Another thing I find very interesting is how people react to this. I don't really try to hide the fact that I read and watch shit like this to people. I find it entertaining to see how they will react. It's entertaining because media like this is everywhere. Have you ever read any Cannibal Corpse lyrics? Yet they are an world wide popular band signed to some major record company. They sing about killing in very brutal details but no one seems to have a problem with it that much anymore. It's a trend nowadays to be like that anyway. Another example are the Saw series. But when it's so direct and so honest like this one it's suddenly offensive? In fact his newest book had to be published only as an ebook because there was no printing company in the whole USA and Japan that wanted to print it. How absurd is this? Well I'm going a bit off topic. I might debate this a little more further in another post.

Benkyo Tamaoki - Tokyo Akazukin (Tokyo Red Hood)

Once upon a time there was a loli in Tokyo. This loli was known only by the name Red Hood. This little loli had only one goal, to be eaten by a wolf.

That's pretty much the basic story of this manga. :S

In a more detailed fashion of explaining this isn't full frontal guro, sadly. Yes - there is explicit violence and yes there is nudity but it is not grotesque. It lacks that disgusting part. I don't know; maybe I'm getting too much used to guro but to me everything here looks pretty and stylish. Kinda childish really. Nevertheless this is still an fully enjoyable read. Packed with violence, action and weird characters this 4 volume story rides you through Tokyo underground filled with cannibalistic desires, butchers, demons and stuff like that. The story is pretty much straightforward once you realize what is it about. Personally I think it's brought to the end quite abruptly, I guess deadline did its thing to the author so he left some things half finished. The art is fairly normal for a manga. Not too little and not too much details, a little big eyes, lots of blood etc. If you went through one shonen manga you should know what to expect from the art.

Shintaro Kago - Koro Koro Soushi

Haven't posted a manga in a while so here's a special treat. The story is set in feudal Japan. A serious famine swept the land and one certain princess started saving people. But we are talking about Shintaro Kago so of course for people to get rice from her they need to donate their body parts. The Princess then gets very interested in anatomy and the brain so she decides to study internal organs and therefore she is now demanding organs from her people. People get agitated by this organ and body donating. Will they overthrow the princes? Will that guy finally get his penis back? Will they all end in hell? Find out yourself. :P

Personally I enjoyed this one a lot. Many, many funny and original moments and really cute imagination. Like, eye scouting!

Dark humor, making fun of religion (especially Jesus who appears here and there making deals), making fun of feudal Japan and pretty much everything else. The art is also more detailed compared to his one shots. The scenery is more detailed and overall there are more shading and little details like that. Highly recommended for everyone who is into guro (I'd recommend it to others as well but it's very gory so I'm not sure if you'll like it)!

Horihone Saizo - Drainage City

I saw and read a lot of weird shit. But this, I have no idea what this is. First of all my dear reader take note that this is hentai. Hentai as in porn with explicit sex. Blah blah, the usual warnings. This is also much, much more than just ordinary hentai. Ironically I'm not really sure what is this supposed to be. All I know this is one of the weirdest things I have ever read in my life and this will stick with me for a long, long time. This is truly grotesque in its perfect form for me. I won't give much detail because it would ruin the fun/vomiting for you. I'll just squeeze one picture and let you decide.

Suehiro Maruo - Rose Colored Monster

Most of FT readers should already be aware that when it comes to Maruo works I turn into a teen giggling schoolgirl that just got a pink cellphone which means that I'll drool a lot in this post.

Rose Colored Monster was Maruos debut work. He was 26 when he released it and if you compare it to his newer work you can notice the amateurism and high motivation in this work. Since it was his first official book he was free to do anything he wants and so he did. Stories vary from sad romances to outright scat drawings and then switches to a class abuse story. The opening story is called "Das Kabinett Des Dr. Caligari" or in English "The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari". It's worthwhile to mention that this is actually an tribute to a German silent expressionist film from the late 20s that went by the same way. There's a torrent circulating around for it so you can download it from isohunt if you'd like to see it (I did and I liked it; you might not if you are not into silent films). Other works also have various tributes and references which actually (to me at least) lets you discover with what things the author is fascinated by and thus peek a bit into his own life.

There's also a prototype/prequel of Midori here. The story is called "The Secret And Sad Story Of The Camelia Girl". While he didn't directly use this plot in the "Amazing Freakshow" he did use it in the animated version of Midori. There are also some really perverted stories in this one that I found really funny. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be funny but then again I have a weird sense of humor.


The art of the manga is still in a bit boy~ish stage so it's not as much detailed as his later works but there are some great but simple drawings like this one below:

Which is yet another reference to silent films (a film that most of you should recognize I think D:)

He also tends to experiment with coloration. I really like the use of red color mixed with black. It gives me this elegant yet fashionable style to the characters with a bit gothic touch. Some though are just inverted colors and some are just plain simple and boring.

Shintaro Kago - Super-Conductive Brains

Personally I hold this as Shintaros best work, ever. This time around it's not an one shot but a full book. It presents different stories settled in a future world in which biomechanoids of any kind are created for every purpose. The art much more detailed and the story is much more in depth.

These biomechanoids look totally absurd and surreal. An truly unique experience. I suggest you read this even if you might not be into grotesque art. Also this one of the few books that Shintaro published. There are three in total to my knowledge. First one would be this, the sceond would be Dance! Kremlin Palace that is currently being translated and the last one would be Bride In Front Of The Station that I only have untranslated. :<

Another really great Shintaros one shot. This one is about a certain disease that makes your past deeds follow you around in small panels above your head. Soon everyone gets it and the reader discovers the unusual life of normal people. And of course everything goes hectic.

Waita Uziga - In a Quagmire (Nukarumi no Naka)

Well the so called guro week did not work as I planned. I posted a lot less from what I planned but eh, they were good considering the number they were downloaded haha!

Firstly I would just like to state that this is not guro. I tagged it so because it's Uziga.

In any case this was his debut manga. It's mostly just humiliation/hentai. The story is about an maid with ulterior reasons that corrupts a spoiled little rich girl. She turnes her into a sexual beast etc. etc. Basic stuff kinda but it's fun to see Uziga doing something; different in a way. Also features a few full colour pages which is always nice. His art in this one is not so good as in future realeses but that's understandable though it still is nice to look. As usual the scans are flawless!

Suehiro Maruo - Mr. Arashi's Amazing Freak Show

This is perhaps the most popular work of all Suehiros mangas. The plot to me felt like an really sad desperate romantic tale (despite that this is ero-guro genre). The main character is a small girl who somehow ended up working as an slave in a circus ensemble. She is there abused and beaten for sheer enjoyment of others. One day an mysterious dwarf appears and he sets his eyes on the little girl Midori. I'll stop here not to spoil the rest of the plot.

The art of is classic Suehiro. Firm and steady lines, everything geometrically even, psychedelic and utterly grotesque yet so beautiful. I'm such a fanboy. -_-

It's also worthy to point out that this has been adapted to an anime. It's banned in Japan but it circulates around Europe by the name "Midori". I have this and I'll post it when I get the cd back from Zmaj. :P

It's kinda weird that it was banned because of explicit images. You can tolerate tentacles, rape, pedophilia and mutilation in animes but you can't tolerate a bunch of weirdo cripples? WTF?

Shintaro Kago - Labyrinth

Ever since I was a kid I liked to run around buildings thinking they were huge mazes. This habit never really wore off, I still wander aimlessly among buildings for some reason this is very enjoyable to me. The story of this one shot is kinda similar. A person is returning home and she realizes that the whole city is an huge maze. Soon everything is slowly turning into mazes. Funny but very peculiar at the same time.

Shintaro Kago - Superglue

Ah another classic. This one is about some weird glue like splash that appears everywhere. If a person touches this splash the person becomes too afraid to move his body part of it. Thus it acts like a superglue. Of course Shintaro takes this to the utmost extreme. So basically; business as usual.

Perhaps the most famous guro compilation. Has all (or at least most of them) the big faces of guro. Each artist contributed with one story except Shintaro who did two (one in color yay!).
