Jiro Matsumoto - Keep On Vibrating

It has been a while since I posted something from this guy so here's a nice compilation of his short stories. There are 7 of them in total here.

What I especially like about this book is that with each story the author tried something different and perhaps something that he does not usually do. If you are not familiar with this artist here's how it goes: just how Suehiro Maruo takes influence from the 20s and 30s Germany so does Jiro take influence from the 70s. Now then, what happened the most in the 70s? Lots of drugs, sex and psychedelic experiences. It even reflects his drawing style to some amount. The drawings are all drawn a bit chaotic (take note that the front cover is nothing like what he usually draws) but it is not blown out of proportions so you can actually see what's going on.

I have read this a long time ago so I can't really remember what the stories were about. I can tell you though that there is a particular story called Iwa and Izaemon (or something like that, I'm too lazy to check) that I really liked. It's a story about two kids who go around wearing gas masks and playing with various things that they encounter (like with a porn actress who is fucking a pig :S) while they look for food for their drunk mother. It's kinda creepy and it is now stained in my mind forever.

Anyways, if you like a bit of psychedelia in comics then I think this is the thing for you.

  3. I really enjoyed that one. It says at the end that the title story is named after an album by his favourite band. Any idea which band it is?
