This is sad.

WHAT?

Things like these remind me that I really don't like everything. This is just, sad. What is this supposed to be anyway? Starts off as generic as it can get and then this black metal type riff gets in and then wut? WUT CRAB PEOPLE? The part that starts around 2:46 is supposed to be what? What the hell happened? What is this? xD Man this music is confusing I can't believe that things like this are popular(?) in USA. Maybe because they are crab people?

Haha this puts turbofolk to shame. xD

  1. That video is well over a year old. It was discovered by some people on 4chan's /mu/ a few months ago who decided to fixate on it. The synchronized moves, the crab squat, the aerobic lead singer, the out-of-nowhere trance outro, it's all a little too much to bear.

The majority of Americans have terrible taste in just about anything. However, I don't think Attack Attack! is very popular.

I'd never heard of/seen turbofolk before. I think it's pretty bad, but has its charms. The video is kinda funny. Jumping around on junked cars is a fun thing to do. It's a song about rice-burner bikes; that's kinda funny.

  2. Is that so? Hmm interesting. I thought this screamo thing is pretty popular over there? I'm not really into such music so I'm not really sure what is mainstream and what is not. Oh well doesn't matter really.

Turbofolk is actually one of the most popular music on the Balkans. It was hyped during the 90s in Serbia to heighten their national identity (having an identity is a common complex that most ex-Yugoslavian countries have).

The music itself is a mixture of of folklore music and modern music (techno most dominantly). The "turbo" part means that its fast and really energetic. It's usually very silly and pointless. Lyrics are about drinking, having sex with strangers, murdering people who stole your girlfriend and usual things we do on a saturday night on the Balkans (I wish I was kidding about this).

The lyrics for the song I linked go something like this:

Japanese machine of 500 horse power when a Balkanian drives it a true macho man. x2

Kawasaki, Kawasaki when it storms on the road every girl wants to ride at least a minute.

    xD

  3. Speaking as an american in high school-yep, screamo's gotten pretty big here. Of course, it's mostly metalcore that the kids are diggin' where I'm at. I still call bands like orchid and jerome's dream screamo, whereas for some people-attack attack! are their definition of screamo.

Anyways, I just wanted to say how much I love this blog. I came here while looking for an image of a combatwoundedveteran album cover, and I'm loving the variety of music and manga covered on here.

    I am disappoint

I assumed (falsely) that since I had never heard of Attack Attack that they were not popular.

Thanks for the high school report, Derek. When I was in high school, everyone listened to Korn, System of a Down, Slipknot, or some sort of rap (probably the first two Eminem records). I am firmly out-of-touch.

  5. To be honest, I'm not sure if Attack Attack! are very popular, but many similar bands are for sure.

I suppose I'll find out when I return in August. (ugh.)

    Wow.
    That.
    Truly.
    Sucks.

On the other hand any popular music sucks right? And since pop-music has the tendence to eat up good music there is no wonder shit like this exists.

I am dissapoint too, but no wonder that 4chan hooked them up, it's just so unbelievable lame.
