Hey folks! It has been a while so let's get into stride with a nice and intense live jazz guitar album. When it comes to instrumentation in jazz the guitar certainly isn't among my favorite instruments and this is probably because I'm so used to the guitar being distorted and heavy that in jazz it just sounds limp to me. But as with everything else there are always exceptions. This album is one fine exception as Pat Martino is one relentless motherfucker on this album. With just a skeleton crew Martino absolutely destroys on all three lengthy tracks. The first one is probably the most interesting as it is the most free and most intense of the selection but all three have something good to offer. The second follows suit in its intensity and speed while the last one is noticeably more relaxed and poppy a nice refreshment at the end. The only downside to this album is that at times the backing musicians don't fully make use of their time in the soloist spotlight.
Have fun and get it.
