The tierd old moon is descending (year overview )

Here we are, 185 (186 if we count this one) posts have passed and our beloved year 2009 comes to an end. So how was it? Well for me I guess the first part was smeared with shit and misfortune while the other part was fine and dandy. The good part was when I got a new gramophone, bought a few comics, bought a bunch of music and bought myself the Blade Runner OST for Christmas. I also went to a few gigs and I also had 3 gigs as Smetnja (check myspace for photos etc.) and all three were a lot of fun. Another notable thing was that me and Khaos opened up Opium Fields which despite very low exposure had quite a lot of visits these past few months. If you haven't checked it out you might want to consider visiting it but take note that all links are rapidshare. The blog is mostly Khaos doing but I contribute now and then. There are also bad things that happened like the death of my hard drive. Now I know it might not sound like a big deal but it was to me. I have a habit of not burning anything on DVDs or CDs so I had all my photos, videos and everything dating back to elementary school there and it was all lost in one crappy day. I also regret that I didn't go to this years Supersonic festival which was held in Birmingham because I missed out a lot of bands that I'll probably will haft to wait 5+ years to see them again (or longer, I live in a great place). I'm sure it would have been a lot of fun but things just didn't work out.

Oh well, enough of my angst. Flying Teapot prospered well enough this year, I searched a bit around google and yahoo and it looks like FT is being mentioned around (mostly in the guro department and manga) on forums and other blogs. I guess I can thank my guro and manga posts for that but I think the music and movies also contributed a bit. There were a few fuck ups as well, I'll never do a themed week again. -_- I also haven't fixed any dead links that I promised to do. I feel bad about that so I hope to fix them during the holidays now that I have a bit more time.

This image is fucking hypnotizing D:

In any case here are some stats:

Numbers taken on 25. 12. 2009.

Top 5 most downloaded music:

01. Original Soundtrack - Howl's Moving Castle (1465 downloads)
02. Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See (695 downloads)
03. Original Soundtrack - Tonari No Totoro (690 downloads)
04. Sun Ra - Supersonic Jazz (666 downloads)
05. Mono - Under The Pipal Tree (661 downloads)

Top 5 most downloaded manga:

01. Junji Ito - Museum of Terror part 1 (1250 downloadS)
02. Hiroaki Samura - Bradherley's Coach (1079 downloads)
03. Junji Ito - Museum of Terror part 2 (1039 downloads)
04. Junji Ito Tomie Vol. 1 (799 downloads)
05. Toshio Maeda - demon beast invasion Volume 1 (759 downloads)

Top 5 most downloaded guro:

01. Hiroaki Samura - Hitodenashi no Koi (3967 downloads)
02. Hell Season (2103 downloads)
03. Uziga Waita - Modern Stories of the Bizarre (2022 downloads)
04. Suehiro Maruo - 28 Scenes Of Murder (Artbook) (1121 downloads)
05. Waita Uziga - In a Quagmire - Nukarumi no Naka (1073 downloadS)

All I can say is, wow. I'm very surprised by these numbers. Half of these things here I thought they will never be downloaded a lot (Mazzy Star what the hell? :D) while some things I thought that they will be downloaded a lot aren't so. If I remember right (too lazy to check) Totoro OST was first last year and now it fell down two places. Ironically another Joe Hisaishi soundtrack topped him haha. I'm mostly surprised with Mazzy Star and Mono because I thought stuff like that everybody has so I didn't expect that much downloads. I saw my link for Sun Ra in a few places so I guess that explains the high number.

Mangas didn't surprise me much except maybe for Toshio Maeda making it in the top 5. For such a thrashy manga it has quite a lot of downloads. Museum of Terror kept its first place and looks like it's far ahead of everybody. Funny how the second part has less downloads. I always wonder why second or later parts always have less downloads form the first one (even if you have to download all parts). All in all Junji kicks ass and deserves those 3 spots up there.

Guro being guro and me being a fan of it I'm actually quite happy it's being spread around. There's no way that many people visit this blog so I'm guessing my links are being spread around a lot and that's a good thing and I encourage it. So whoever you people are keep doing what you are doing because you are making me very ureshiiiii~

I always wet myself when I look at this. :D

For future plans I intend to post much more hot jazz and swing next year and some new guro I found all over the place. I'm also hoping to find some more art books but they are a bitch to find. I'd also like to thank everyone who helped me out find things on my wishlist. I still can't believe how hard it is to find Kazuo Umezu mangas scanlated. I'm also considering to post comics that are not from Japan and by that I mean American comics mostly, I guess. While I do read a lot of superhero comics I don't think they would fit here and I hear they are quite cheap nowadays so there's no point in me sharing them but Marvel and Dark Horse also do other stuff that's rather interesting to read like Alien comics which have some really great art. The question is would people be interested in it? I would also love to share some European comics but most stuff that circulates on the net is in Italian which sucks. I'm considering to do one scanlation of Dylan Dog myself but I have no idea in what I'm diving into so I have no idea how will that go if I decide to do it.

That's about it I think. This is the last post of this year. See you next year. Till then my darling please wait for meeee, till then no matter when it will beeee...

Raison d'etre - Requiem For Abandoned Souls

There isn't enough ambient around this blog so here you go. Raison D'etre is a Swedish dark ambient project which is fairly known I think. This isn't exactly his magnum opus but this happens to be one of my favorite ambient albums of all times. It has everything that I usually want from ambient music. It has those dark drone passages, bells, moody sort of yelling etc. It's Cold Meat Industry so you can't go wrong. ;D

Hiroaki Samura - Love Of The Brute (Russian Unofficial Version)

Why am I posting this again? Is it attention? Well no; it just happens I accidentally one day found a superior version of this art book from what I previously posted. From what I managed to decipher from the Cyrillic text this is an unofficial Russian version of the manga and it seems like it's some sort of internet exclusive version.

So why is this different from the last one?

For starters this is scanned perfectly so you can see the whole image without any shadings or bent papers and the brightness is just the way it should be so it's not too dark nor too bright. The art book itself contains more pages that it did in the last version I posted. While the last one had about 89 pages this one has about 100 pages of art which means it has some new images that were left out on the previous version I found or perhaps were just added for better enjoyment (either way we win :D). The average resolution of the images are 1100x1600.

The art is very brutal and all victims are female so if you are a feminist or something like that, you won't like this. If you like guro you'll adore this and I know a lot of people do because last version I posted had 3k downloads, you sick fucks. :D

Fort Wayne - Resignation

Oooh tiny cover(!) and so is I guess the popularity or common awareness of this album. Both the band name and the album name is a bitch to search anywhere. But oh well, it found a way to me because of some nice people. You might not guess from the title but Fort Wayne is from Japan, as is most stuff here. It's kinda like Bluedawn I guess but the vocals are much more uh under some effects to make it sound more dreamy. There's also much more experimentation with sounds and different approaches to song composition from your usual folk singer (or at least the ones I looked >:|) so there are some trippy and more electronic songs in there. I'm not really sure what to think of this album, I guess it's up to you to decide if you like it or not. D:

From her student time till now, she creates the tape works using Max/MSP, the works for voice and woodwind instruments, and percussion instruments. Crushing The Holy Trinity

Oh I don't really know where to start with this one. I uploaded it a long time ago actually but never really found the appropriate time to post it. Since Christmas is around the corner why not post this delicious blasphemy now? What we have here is a massive 3CD or 3LP (depends on what you bought) compilation of some sort. It is separated into three Christian deities which are: Son, Father and the Holy Spirit.

Father:

The Father part has two bands. The all famous Deathspell Omega and another relatively known band called Stabat Mater (another one of Mikko Aspas children to be exact and I keep calling it Sabat Mater). Both contributed one relatively long song. The Deathspell Omega song is possibly the best one on this compilation but fanboy~ism on the side the track sounds something like their EP Kenose and Chaining the Katechon blended together. Starts of slow with a very weird guitar riff which later goes on into some sort of trance like riffing and then drifts off to black metal department of business to be finally ended with choirs of course (and there's some acoustic masturbation along the way). Nothing too frantic which might be a let down for some (fans of FAS specifically). Ironically Stabat Mater is possibly the worst song on this compilation to me. Nothing really interesting happens through the 17 minutes that the song lasts. Vocals are simply terrible here, now that I think about it I never really liked the growling that Mikko does anywhere. Can't say I really remember what the song was like, quite dull.

Son:

The Son part kicks in with the classical modern "raw" black metal (I don't know what I just said) by a band called Musta Surma (and I keep reading Sarma not Surma - what is wrong with me these days?) from Finland! They play their thing mostly mid-paced and sort of melodic (as far as black metal goes) so it's quite fun to listen. Nothing overly original or complex but it is plain good old fun. The other part of the Son was done by a band called Clandestine Blaze who are also from Finland and Mikko Aspa is also in it... -_- Clandestine Blaze is fairly popular among the scene so I don't really feel inclined to explain how this part sounds. All i can say is that Mikko here again growls and that kinda ruins the whole thing for me but it's still enjoyable music wise and in terms of composition.

Holy Spirit:

While Father was a bit epic in its design, Son was slow and brooding which means Holy Spirit will be fast and furious and hopefully without Vin Diesel. Furious indeed it is. As far as I know Mgla had its first appearance in the world through this compilation (Mgla, surprisingly for this compilation is not from Finland or connected to Mikko Aspa, the ubermann of Finland). If you liked his albums and EPs he released after this you'll certainly enjoy this. While in comparison the production here is far more weaker from his later works it doesn't really destroy the mood. As usual Mgla offers very nonlinear and interesting compositions that never make me bored or uninterested. The vocals aren't too high pitched nor too much growled, in fact, they are exactly what I seek in black metal vocals. Great stuff and not to be missed imho. The second half was done by a band Exordium (THE FINNISH ONE OF COURSE, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? ;D) and similar to Mgla they also delivered some fast Marduk type of black metal blasting. Now I know some people might be offended because I compare underground bands with modern businessmen of Marduk but they kinda do sound alike (the vocals remind me a lot of how Legion used to sound). So if you like Marduk you'll like this but Exordium tries to be a little more creative and crazy with their riffs. The last song though is slower and kinda monotonous.

I warmly recommend this to people who are into black metal and are looking to discover some new great bands, otherwise I don't think you'll find anything of interest here.

Kenji Hamaoka - Rome-rome

So here I am. It's about 2 in the morning and I just finished watching Near Dark which made me really sleepy. For some reason while I was watching the movie it kinda made me remember this cute little one shot. Haven't read it in a long time so I thought I should refresh my memory. Well, in a way it has something to do with Near Dark, it's about family and bonding. While Near Dark is a vampire flick (presumably) Rome-rome is a zombie flick. Funny though, I didn't read a lot of zombie related mangas (care to recommend something dear reader? just don't mention Zombie Loan :| ) but this one was a peculiar ride. I first heard about this searching for something that was similar to Historie and since it was called "Rome-rome" I thought it had to do something with Romans or Rome. How wrong I was. -_-

In any case, I would not really dwell in the story plot department because I would kinda ruin the whole thing and besides it's just a few pages long anyway. Artwork is kinda wacky, sorta childish but in a good way.

Fanfare Ciocărlia - Queens and Kings

Here's some Balkan music for you foreign dogs to enjoy.

This is what I listen when I get drunk.

And yes, these guys were the ones who made the soundtrack for Borat (not all songs though, I think).
Čaša u čelo.

Original Soundtrack - Nausicaa Of The Valley Of Wind

There are several versions of this soundtrack from what I gathered. The one I'm posting is supposed to be the "image album" (whatever the hell that means). From all the versions this one is my favorite simply because it holds my most favored songs from the movie and in their best versions (best versions for me at least :P).

In any case, the movie is set in a world that was destroyed by huge god-thing giants in 10 days. Humans survived and are struggling for existence while the Earth regenerates. The destruction though happened a very long time ago so it's now mostly legends and the world today is slowly regenerating through killing every human on the planet. :D The reign of humans is long over and huge bugs now dominate the food chain. That's a bit basic plot of the movie. It later gets on more complex and goes into bible epic proportions. The manga on the other hand (which I warmly recommend, I think I still have it somewhere so I might post it in the near future) is far more political and more warfare oriented which makes it far more complex.

Since the movie was made in 1984 you can expect the usual cheesy electronics, synths, electronic drums etc. but they happen to be very well orchestrated and the soundtrack isn't as bland as I might have hinted. It was composed by Joe Hisaishi and this was the first collaboration between Miyazaki and Hisaishi so this soundtrack also has a historical meaning of sort. In a way the songs on this soundtrack a bit remind me of music that were in games of the 90s. Especially the third track, reminds me so much of one game I used to play when I was kid on Turbo Grafix 16 but sadly I can't remember the name (it was a racing game I think, with F1 formulas).

To make it short. If you liked the movie, you'll like the soundtrack because a large deal of the atmosphere in the movie was contributed by the music. If you like 80s electronics and stuff you'll like this as well (probably) and finally if you collect soundtracks made by Joe Hisaishi you need to get this because of its historic importance.

<3

Try it if you haven't already, it's really good.

Hisae Iwaoka - White Clouds

This is one of those stories that are sad and happy at the same time. It's sad because it's about dying and about losing memories of those who are gone (or waiting to respawn after another campfest in Italy, fucking campers! >:( ). But there is also happiness in this because there is still hope that we will see our loved/hated ones when we die as well and that's pretty much what this one shot is about. An old man walks a dog and takes care of an plastic bottle for no apparent reason.

Kan Mikami - Yo-You (or 女優 [Jo-You])

Well, if you like Kazuki Tomokawa you'll probably like this as well. It's along the same line, not exactly as good as Kazuki but close to it. There's more chaos in the guitar work and last time I checked Kazuki had an acoustic guitar while this fellow is has the electric guitaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar.

So yeah, folk fans should be happy about this. The rest of us can gtfo because I have no idea what to write.
