If there ever was a constant in my life it was probably the music of Sun Ra. It doesn't matter what record it is, it can be his wildest or his tamest I will always feel like I came home when I put on some Sun Ra. I haven't posted anything by him in a long time so I've decided to share this little gem of his. This was late in his career and it's a quiet contemplative album and quite a conventional one (in context of improvisation) but that shouldn't be a bad thing. It's a testament to the fact that even though players in the arkestra often played wildly and free they still were capable and learned musicians. Despite it being a conventional album some sharp edges and the usual oddity of Sun Ra still peeks out every once in a while, reminding you and hinting at you a different dimension of music. Good stuff.

ReplyDeleteThanks Burek! really appreciate it, although i actually managed to find it in another site. really hard to find, the mainstream torrent sites seems to be oblivious to Sun Ra's existence, haha.

i just read your latest post, and i agreed very much with most of what you said. its been almost 8 years that i found your blog. i remembered i was searching for some manga, and end up here through google search, and learnt of guro from your blog, and totally fell in love with shintaro kago, his manga is always awesome, and then i learned of bohren & der club of gore, from an interview with Frost, the legendary black metal drummer, he actually liked bohren and recommended it too and yes, i found the album here too, and nowadays i've really come to embrace all sorts of different genres, aside from metal, my fav. and kammerflimmer is another great dark jazz band. also got it from here.
anyway, just wanted to let you know that there are still people who appreciate your effort in sharing, its really awesome. like even if there are tonnes of others sharing, the subjects are different. and i am really happy that i stumbled upon your blog 8 years ago. and will continue to browse for great music or manga. i usually read your post, and then go to youtube to listen if it's good, then i'll go download from your blog. hope you will keep this blog alive for years to come.
