WHAT?

Things like these remind me that I really don't like everything. This is just, sad. What is this supposed to be anyway? Starts off as generic as it can get and then this black metal type riff gets in and then wut? WUT CRAB PEOPLE? The part that starts around 2:46 is supposed to be what? What the hell happened? What is this? xD Man this music is confusing I can't believe that things like this are popular(?) in USA. Maybe because they are crab people?

Haha this puts turbofolk to shame. xD

Katsuhiro Otomo - Domu

Otomos most famous work is obviously Akira. Something that I could watch or read at any time of the day. So I thought that some of his other works might be good as well and decided to check them out. Domu was the first one I read from him that wasn't in the Akira universe. And oh boy I sure was surprised. It still has his own style of drawing and it's not much different from his other works. Large detailed buildings, things torn to tiny pices and clear yet simple facial expressions. His characters sometimes look more like charicatures which is one of the things that I dislike. So what is Domu about? It starts as a detective story. Somone jumped from a roof of the building. The detectives find out soon after that this happens a lot in this building complex. Actually death is there almost like a taboo if you mention it. At first I thought this is going to be something like Suicide Club but I was wrong, completely. It isn't about suicides. It turns in a full frontal war between two psychic talented people and its all great fun for the readers. Its like a twisted version of what would kids do from Akira if the military didn't find out about them, or something like that.

The Fujii - We Pray The Brooze

This is a pretty much an unknown band. I don't see them around blogs and nobody seems to mention them on the forums. There's also nothing about them on last.fm. This is a crime. >:|

The Fujii is a blues band from Japan. When I hear the word - blues I first think of, uh, Chet Baker or Peter Green or something like but this is not blues like that. This is pretty much the old blues that black people did. You know, the one with a heavy amount of guitar wire bending. To me when I listen this music I can always picture some backwater town in the middle of the desert with 10 people in it having fun with music or something and that is what makes this band so awesome. It is also so much more than that. They aren't afraid to bring new stuff in it and play with it. It certainly does not hurt and the atmosphere they create is magnificent. Definitely check this on out.

Nagata Shigeru - Umi Ga Kikoeru (Ocean Waves) OST

When it comes to anime I never really enjoyed romance+slice of life anime. It's not that I hate them, I just don't understand them and find no fun in them whatsoever. I now and then give some show a shot but it fails me most of the time. I guess I'm just not for it. I mean, I watched Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and I didn't even realize that it's supposed to be a comedy. -_- I didn't laugh even once. Then one day I heard of Ocean Waves. At first I was really skeptical about it but since I'm a complete Ghibli slut that will suck and swallow everything they throw out I decided to watch it. Surprisingly Miyazaki didn't have a major role in this anime (I don't think he even participated in making this one). The studio had an idea that only young people from their studio should make it. In the end I actually liked this. It really is a good, realistic slice of life anime and I think that it's terribly underrated. I won't spoil you the story so I'll just say that there's a torrent circulating around isohunt that has this anime (along with a lot of other Ghibli movies) and it's still active so you should have no problem getting it. The main point about this post is the soundtrack so I don't really need to explain the plot anyway. Or you could, you know, buy it if you don't live in such a shithole like myself. :D

When I said that I first heard of Ocean Waves I ment that, literary. I heard the soundtrack and I really enjoyed it so I thought the movie would not be so bad either and I was right tee hee. It has its share of flaws (some melodies are a bit too cheesy) but overall I think it's well made and fits with the mood of the anime perfectly. The main title song (Umi Ga Kikoeru) is especially well composed. Starts very simple by just playing around with the piano and then it gradually builds on and on untill it reaches its trumpet sort of climax but nothing spectacular, it almost comes like a soft breeze (whoa I'm getting all romantic over this -_-).

In short, if you watched this you should get this because the soundtrack rocks. If you haven't watched it you should still get it for its great composition and jazzy feeling (among other things). Note that it's not done by Joe Hisaishi which is kinda strange but it comes to me actually as an refreshment (kinda getting tierd of his soundtracks although Nausicaa will never get old).

Assassin - The Upcoming Terror

Assassin was one of those thrash bands that released one or two albums and then went missing (kinda like Toxik). I always liked their named. It spelled ass twice. :O They did release an album in 2005 but nobody noticed.

Jokes aside this one is a cult status album. It's filled with catchy riffs and high pitched screams in true tank smashing German fashion (just like on the cover). Released in the prime time of thrash which is the year 1986.

Grey Gordon Orchestra

I know very little about this swing orchestra. I know that they were active during the 30s and that this what I have seems to be a radio recording. I don't think anyone ever released their works on cd or vinyls. In short, they were forgotten by time. But not by me! :D

I found some scarce information about them on some old web site but due to my hard drive crash I lost that bookmark. What is interesting about this orchestra is that they used an accordion. I don't know about you but this is the first time I heard an accordion in a swing orchestra. Perhaps there are others but I don't know about them. In any case this particular sounds makes them a bit, unique, compared to others from their time. In terms of sound this is as old school as it gets. Merry little melodies and instrumentation coupled with lovable singing voice. Too bad they never got famous. ;(

There are 18 songs in total. I won't bother with tracklist.

Oh and since there are not any photos of them on the net I just added a photo of my little antique (sort of) USSR accordion that I have. ^_^

Miaou - Make These Things Alright

I always have a weak spot for post rock; that and cheeky cliche films from the 30s.

Miaou is a three piece post rock band from Japan. They formed around 1999 and have several albums under their belt. Make These Things Alright is most likely my favorite. It has that special atmosphere that I enjoy in post rock and that is the feeling of joy. It makes you feel good and happy. There's some electronic influences (mostly keyboards and such) as well on this album which don't seem to be present (if I remember right) on other albums so this one is a bit unique. Definetly check it out if you are a post-rock fan!

Daisuke Igarashi - Witches

Whoo! Summer and all that crap started a few days back for me. Fucking finally. (-_-') Anyway. I have some tasty stuff that should break your summer boredom.

Witches is obviously about witches. A wildly imaginative trek into the deepest realms of human beliefs and the mysteries of the universe. Daisuke Igarashi's amazing pen can recreate anything he can imagine on paper, resulting in beautifully chaotic, maddeningly detailed scrawls of pure wonder. The two volumes are constructed of several different witch stories. Each is unique in its own way. Some are about good magic and some are about evil magic. The art is a bit similar to Jiro Matsumotos style which I find particularly interesting. The scenery is drawn magnificent but characters impressions could use some work in future manga. Definitely check this one out and especially if you are into supernatural stories.
